Field Trips

Field trips are planned primarily as a part of, and as an extension of, the school instructional, not recreational, program.

These excursions are carefully planned and are means of broadening and enriching the students' background.  Therefore, all students are required to participate in order to achieve the optimum curriculum goals.  Grades are given in lieu of classwork.  A student's class participation grade may be affected if the student has an unexcused absence; a doctor's certificate must be presented for an excused absence.

All students attending the field trip, will leave from the school with their class and teacher.  Parents will not be allowed to drop-off or take the students directly to the place designated for the field trip.  The student may be suspended from school if the parent insists on taking the student on their own or attending the field trip with the student, when the parent has not been named an official chaperone.  Students attending a field trip, must remain in school until the end of the school day.  Teachers initiate and notify parents of all planned field trips; permission slips must be signed preceding the field trip.  Permission forms are supplied by the Archdiocese of Miami Department of Schools and are the ONLY form of permission permitted.  Students without this permission form will not be allowed to attend.

Parents will be asked to act as chaperones.  Chaperones will have a certain number of students assigned to them and will be responsible for the care, discipline and safety of those children.  The number of chaperones is assigned by grade level:

TEACHERS WILL DESIGNATE PARENTS AND ONLY THOSE PARENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE SPECIFIC FIELD TRIP.

All chaperones will provide their own transportation and must wait in the driveway area after the bell rings at 7:45 a.m.  Parents acting as chaperones will not be permitted to wait in the front plaza.

Parents acting as chaperones will not be permitted to bring siblings or other children along during the field trips(s).  Service hours will be accumulated for this type of help.
